Celebrate the Perfect Valentine’s Day! A Guide to Cards, Gifts & Dinner
Valentine’s Day is a special day for lovers. Even if you show your special someone love and appreciation on other days, treat February 14th as a special day.
Yes, it has become overly commercialized. But everyone is thinking about Valentine’s Day. It’s best to avoid disappointing your loved one, besides choosing a card or flowers is a minimal expense anyway. And you don’t have to book at an expensive restaurant that is going to be hectic and busy that evening.
It’s possible to still celebrate Valentine’s Day in your own way. However, with a little thought, you can make it more personalized.
So where do you start?
The Card
I am a big fan of mailing cards. A well-selected card becomes a little present in the mail. Think about it, aren’t you bored with opening your mailbox and finding bills and junk mail? People still love to receive cards and love letters.
An unexpected greeting card in the mail always guarantees a smile.
Make sure you mail the card early. It should arrive at least five days prior to Valentine’s Day. You want the person to enjoy it in the upcoming days ahead.

The Flowers
Flowers are always appreciated and can liven up any room of a home. There are also many meanings of flowers, so you can focus your message on their meaning if you wish.

Dinner
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday. Please skip the dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant. For those of you who follow me, you know how much I advise against going out to dinner on a holiday. It is due to two reasons.
First, restaurants are always crowded on Valentine’s Day and other special holidays. Since restaurateurs make their money on the number of people who eat at a table, the staff is anxious to get you in and out so that another party can occupy the table. Thus, dining on holidays becomes rushed.
Second, if you live in a major city like NY, LA or DC, going out to dinner is de rigueur. Dining out has become more of a convenience and less of a special event. You have to eat anyway, right? Cooking at home has become the new sexy!
However, if you love going out to eat, dine out on the non-holiday. Thus, in 2018 do your Valentine’s Day dining on Sunday, February 11th instead. What’s even better is that it’s the weekend, so you won’t feel rushed to reach a restaurant on Wednesday evening after work!
There are other benefits to dining out prior to Valentine’s Day that allow you to extend the celebration. You and your lady will also have bragging rights with family and friends.

That’s it. It’s as simple as making Valentine’s Day your own! Just imagine your loved one’s surprise when she finds out what you’ll be doing for Valentine’s Day this year.
