Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? I know I can’t!

As the song goes “It’s the most wonderful time of the year. There’ll be parties for hosting…” that means we must brush up on our hostess and guest etiquette.

Hostess Etiquette:

  1. Extend invitations early.
  2. Introduce guests to each other upon their arrival.
  3. Dress the table with short centerpieces, so everyone can see each other while they are talking and eating. Tall centerpieces will obstruct people’s views.
  4. Make sure there is a clearly marked place for used cocktail toothpicks.
  5. Stock the Powder Room with single-use, disposable guest hand towels.
  6. Make sure the Powder Room is well stocked with toilet paper that can be easily found.

Guest Etiquette:

  1. Respond to all invitations promptly. Your hostess needs a headcount as soon as possible.
  2. Let your hostess know in advance if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
  3. Arrive on time. If you are going to be late, call your hostess. Do not text.
  4. Leave at the time designated time on the invitation.
  5. Do not bring a plus-one unless you receive permission in advance.
  6. Do not rearrange the table cards. There is a reason the hostess created a seating arrangement.

General Etiquette: Remember your dining etiquette table manners.
