Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? I know I can’t!
As the song goes “It’s the most wonderful time of the year. There’ll be parties for hosting…” that means we must brush up on our hostess and guest etiquette.
Hostess Etiquette:
- Extend invitations early.
- Introduce guests to each other upon their arrival.
- Dress the table with short centerpieces, so everyone can see each other while they are talking and eating. Tall centerpieces will obstruct people’s views.
- Make sure there is a clearly marked place for used cocktail toothpicks.
- Stock the Powder Room with single-use, disposable guest hand towels.
- Make sure the Powder Room is well stocked with toilet paper that can be easily found.
Guest Etiquette:
- Respond to all invitations promptly. Your hostess needs a headcount as soon as possible.
- Let your hostess know in advance if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
- Arrive on time. If you are going to be late, call your hostess. Do not text.
- Leave at the time designated time on the invitation.
- Do not bring a plus-one unless you receive permission in advance.
- Do not rearrange the table cards. There is a reason the hostess created a seating arrangement.
General Etiquette: Remember your dining etiquette table manners.
